CTK CYO Track & Field

Servicing Christ the King & St. Catherine of Siena parishes

Welcome to Christ the King and St. Catherine of Siena Track & Field!
We are a CYO track program for all 2nd through 8th grade athletes in the Pleasant Hill / Martinez / Walnut Creek area. No church affiliation is necessary. We compete in the Diablo Valley Catholic League, which is Section 1 of the Oakland Diocese. Our team is sponsored by the Christ the King, St. Catherine, and St. Stephen parishes. Elementary and middle-school athletes living within the boundaries of the three parishes are eligible to participate on our team as are students (including religious education students) at any of the parish schools. Use the Oakland Diocese Parish Finder tool if you are not sure what parish you are in.

Head Coach: Jason Allen
Team Coordinators: Sidney Allen & Kelly Ingraham
Volunteer Coordinator: Jenn Meran

Our practice season typically begins in February, and meets take place on Saturdays from March through early May. Signups are typically held in January.

Volunteering:
Our team is 100% volunteer-run and every family is required to contribute a certain number of hours to make the program work. This requirement can be met by volunteering at the Saturday meets, coaching, or serving as one of team's coordinators. There is a $250 volunteer deposit per family that is returned/shredded if obligations are met.

Meet Events:
Meets are on Saturdays and start at 9am and last until all the events are run. This can be variable, but are generally done by 1pm. Having enough volunteers is crucial to the efficient progress of a meet. A typical meet includes the following events:

50m dash (5th grade and under)
100m dash

400m

Registration

Registration for CTK/St Catherine Track and Field is now open! This year the new CYO director has made some changes to the registration process which has led to some delays in getting registration out. We really appreciate your patience as we have been working hard behind the scenes to iron out the kinks.
This year registration will be online, please click on this link below to visit our new registration website:

Register for the 2026 Season Now!

Please note that the website says the jerseys are optional. Your athlete will need a jersey in order to compete, however if you have one from a previous track season and it still fits you do not need to purchase a new one. Within a week, you should receive an invitation to join the Teamsnap roster, this is our main form of communication and will also include our calendar.

We will be practicing at the College Park high school track on Mondays and Wednesday. Our first practice will be on February 2nd, 2026 at 5:30pm. Please plan to stick around for the first 15 mins for a quick meeting with the head coach. As a 100% volunteer-run program, we rely heavily on parent involvement to keep everything running smoothly. Each family is asked to volunteer some of their time to the team, by coaching(see below), filling a team job, or working at 2 of the meets.Since we have had trouble filling the volunteer jobs at meets in the past, we ask for a $250 deposit check which is shredded when you complete your hours, or deposited at the end of the season if you choose not to volunteer. If all the meet jobs get filled, all the checks get shredded! I’ll send more info about exactly what the meet jobs entail when we get closer to the meets, but they are things like measuring long jumps or timing races. If your child advances and plans to participate in the post season meets (sectionals and diocesan) you will be required to volunteer an extra shift.

Please note that the $250 is separate from the online registration so please bring a check made out to “CTK TRACK” to the first practice. Our head coach this year is Jason Allen. Let him know at weallensrule@gmail.com if you are interested in coaching, or answer the question about it at the time of registering. Coaching fulfills your volunteer requirement, and is a great way to get to know the kids and stay warm when the track is cold. You also get to be on the field for most of the meets, getting a better view of the action. The head coach makes the workout plans and each group has coaches who know track for you to work with, so no experience is necessary. Please feel free to forward this email to other families you think may be interested in our team. Having more athletes makes it easier to put relays together, and spreads out the volunteer load for parents too.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the track!

Sidney Allen and Kelly Ingraham Co-Team Coordinators

Rules

Practice is currently held on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm at College Park High School. It is located at 201 Viking Dr. in Pleasant Hill. Please give yourself enough time to get to the track from the parking lot. It is a bit of a walk. Please be prompt and arrive on time to get warmed up and avoid injury as well as for pick-up.

1. Practices are important, but not at the expense of homework, illness or injury. If you cannot participate please stay home, rest up and we will see you at the next practice.

2. Workouts are carefully prepared by the coaches before each practice. The age and condition of each athlete is considered. The overall conditioning of the athlete is the priority as well as making sure the kids have fun.

3. Athletes are not allowed on the hill at the track or to go under the fence at the parking lot to get to the track.

4. Take all trash with you when you leave the track. Do not leave empty water bottles. Remember your sweats.

5. If you must leave a practice early, a parent must come down to the track to collect you. We will not let you leave the track to meet your ride in the parking lot by yourself.

6. Arrive at track meets at least 30 minutes before the start of the meet. If you cannot make it to a meet, please inform your coach prior to the meet. If you leave before the end of the meet, please inform your primary coach.

7. Upon arriving to a track meet, help your athlete locate the CTK tent set-up. Athletes are responsible for getting themselves to their chosen events on time. Please note, coaches will be in & out of this area as they are overseeing events and athletes on the field. Please remind your athlete to conduct themselves appropriately and to represent CTK/SC respectfully.

Volunteering

We are a 100% volunteer-run organization. Our practices and track meets depend on volunteers to keep things moving smoothly. We ask that each family plan on volunteering at two (2) track meets. Volunteer hours can also be fulfilled via a team job. These include coordinator, volunteer coordinator, coach, head coach, ribbons/awards, and uniform coordinator. There are also smaller jobs that can be counted towards your volunteer requirement if the meets are a hardship. However, our #1 priority is getting those meet jobs filled, as the meets can't happen without them. These are assigned to us by coordinator of our CYO section. Our volunteer coordinator will share available volunteer positions via Sign-Up Genius form the week before a meet.

Safety Guidelines

Personal Safety
1. Be on time to practices and meets to ensure proper warm up. All athletes must warm up to prevent injuries.

2. We are here to have fun, but not at the expense of each other’s safety. Treat others the way you would want them to treat you. Horseplay and roughhousing are not allowed.

3. If you are injured or are having difficulty with a workout, please let a coach know immediately. No running, jumping, shot putting, or throwing is permitted when you are injured.

4. Workouts should not be painful. If you are experiencing pain please let a coach know immediately.

Track Safety
1. Track and Field areas can be dangerous at both meets and practices. Always keep your eyes and ears open and be aware of events and practices underway. Be particularly careful when stepping onto the track.

2. At the start of our practice the high school track team will still be practicing. Proceed to the stands and wait there until the coaches instruct you on the day’s practice. Walking or running on the track, in-field or field event areas prior to the start of practice can be dangerous and is not allowed.

3. Do not cross the long jump runways or the high jump apron. Go around these areas to avoid collisions with speeding jumpers. Do not run or jump in the long jump area unless under the direct supervision of a coach or official.

4. Shot puts and softballs can be dangerous, especially when thrown. They are to be used only with permission and under the direct supervision of a coach or official.

5. Do not jump or lie on the high jump pits unless you are performing or practicing the high jump under the supervision of a coach or official.

6. Hurdles and pole vault areas are off limits. Misuse of these items can result in injury.

Drop off & Pick up

1. When dropping off please tell your athlete to look for cars. This is a high school parking lot and young drivers abound. Please tell them to look for cars in the parking lot and walk to the track.

2. When practice is over, kids are released from their groups to start walking to the stairs. If your child needs supervision, please pick them up at the track entrance next to the new bathrooms and snack bars.

3. Coaches will make sure no children are left at the track. We will wait for your child to be picked up, but please remember to be prompt.

4. Discuss the drop off and pickup plan with your child so they will know what to do.
