Christ the King CYO Track & Field
Practices
Practices for the 2012 season are held at College Park High School in Pleasant Hill, and start at 5pm and end by dark, running no later that 6:30pm. The specific schedule for the week should be posted on the main page of the web site.
The track is all-weather, meaning that we can practice in overcast or drizzly weather. If the weather looks rough, check the web site or Twitter for updates.
Athlete Safety
- Always dress warmly, including long pants and a sweatshirt, especially for the first practices. It is vital that you keep your muscles warm.
- Bring a water bottle clearly labeled with your first and last name.
- Stay off the fences and hillsides. This isn't cross-country.
- Stay off the track until practice starts, always watch when crossing, and remember that we share the field with other sports.
- Listen to your coaches, and stay with your practice group.
- Athletes leaving practice early must inform their coaches at the start of practice, and must be picked up by an adult, no exceptions. We cannot allow any athlete to leave practice unaccompanied.
Before Practice
- Are you wearing warm clothes? You should be. No, a sweatshirt and shorts does not count as dressing warmly.
- Use the restroom before you leave. Facilities at the practice field are very limited.
- Wait in the stands for practice to start.
During Practice
- Stay with your practice group, which set by grade and gender.
- Athletes who need to leave practice early must tell their primary coach at the start of practice, and must be picked up at the field by an adult.
Workouts are planned in advance, and may involve sprints, relays, field-events, or supervised distance runs along the trail.
- Parents are welcome to observe from the comfort of the stands, but please stay off the track and field areas during practice.
- For liability reasons, only registered athletes may participate: please keep all siblings, cousins, best friends, etc. in the stands or at home.
Because it is a question every year: YES, there is a lot of running in track and field. Almost the entire practice will be spent running. If you do not like to run, track is probably not for you.
After Practice
- When practice ends, all athletes take a cool-down lap, and meet with their primary groups for final announcements, passing out awards, and planning for any upcoming meets.
- Adults should come to the track to pick up their athletes. Please be prompt at pick-up, and be very careful in the parking lot.
